22km north of Hurghada, El Gouna is a small and humble town that was first established in the late 1980s. Since then, it has flourished to one of the top travel destinations in the world. The summers are long and warm, and the winters are cool, dry, and mostly clear, and it is windy all year round - what more could you ask for?
The wind almost always blows side-onshore (direction north- northwest) The summer runs from March until October with the air temperature ranging from 25?°C- 35?°C. The heat peaks around July and August and can easily reach 40+?°C, so remember to bring a rash vest and SPF 50+ sunblock!
Read more about El GounaDuring these months, the wind will be frequent, lighter, but consistent. The 'winter' months run from October until March with temperatures ranging from 16°C - 19°C (Summer temperatures in some parts of the world!) The wind will generally be stronger during that time occasionally reaching 30+ knots.
If you are not kiteboarding, there's an abundance of other activities that will keep you entertained. SUP tours around the lagoons in El Gouna is a popular choice of activity on no wind days, diving trips, Sliders cable park and if you'd like to take a break from any water-related activities, a hike in the mountains with Sytze is something you should get done. Just as us at The Spot reception and we can book you in for a no wind activity!
Whether you are staying at a hotel or apartment in Marina or Downtown, you won't be too far away from a Toktok stand or a Toktok passing by. They will charge you 25 EGP (€ 1.5) to drive you up to The Spot.
Once you are done kiteboarding, we will arrange a ride for you to get back to your hotel or apartment. In the evenings, you have over 100 restaurants along Abu-Tig Marina and Downtown to choose from depending on what you are in the mood for. Then after that, you can either head back to your room for a good night sleep, or hit the party scene which will usually kick off around 11:30 PM (We usually party when we know there won't be much wind the following morning!)
Hopefully, you won't need it, but just to be assured, El Gouna has a fully-equipped hospital that provides 24-hour emergency care.
